The Pebble, the bolder and The Avalanche

23r32-min1We often find ourselves crushed under the weight of a bolder. That Bolder can be represented by any number of issues or struggles. The bolder could be manifested as anger, fear, anxiety, greed, alcoholism, drug addiction, pornography addiction or a plethora of other obstacles laid out by the enemy.

14-BEDHA-Bubbles1That old devil is one crafty cat. He knows just how and where to attack us. He knows when we set up defenses in one area we leave another vulnerable. He feigns an attack at the area where we’ve focused our defense only to slip in the back and stab us with his poisoned blade, like the skilled assassin he is.

Just think of the devil as the bolder crushing us under its weight.

The devil likes to yell at the top of his blackened lungs because he has to try hard to drown out the voice of God. But here’s the deal; God’s voice can never be drowned out. God only needs a whisper; a still small voice. Picture God’s voice as the pebble. Got that. So devil = bolder; God = pebble. You’re probably thinking “shouldn’t it be the other way around? I thought God was all-powerful? Shouldn’t He be represented by the bolder?” Jesus, God’s son, did not appear as a conquering king with a vast army, impenetrable armor, and massive sword and shield. He appeared as baby, a boy and a man; a servant. He served instead of conquering.

So God = pebble.

All it takes to start an avalanche is one pebble hitting a bolder at just the right spot and with just the right amount of force. avalanche

“Wait? Avalanche?! How did we get from pebble and bolder to avalanche?!”

Stay with me.

All it takes is something as seemingly small and insignificant as a whisper to fell the mightiest enemy. God’s whisper is the pebble striking the bolder. His still small voice is the catalyst for the avalanche. Once the avalanche starts, the bolder is no longer in control. it tumbles precariously as it’s sent spiraling down. The bolder becomes overwhelmed, and it’s power is taken from it.

So picture the avalanche as Christ and the snow as his blood shed to cleanse us all. His life, ministry, death and resurrection was the avalanche, and in His death, he conquered the devil for all time.

The next time you feel that bolder on you holding you down, just remember that it’s been knocked down by the pebble, and overwhelmed by the avalanche. The devil believes he has the upper hand, and he walks about with chest puffed out and head held high. But for all his yelling; for the giant bolder he thinks secures him over our lives, He’s got nothing on God’s little pebble, and the avalanche that came when Jesus died and rose again.

All you need to receive God’s love and grace is to simply ask Jesus to come in. Tell Him the door is open and He is welcome. You will feel the power and weight of that bolder fall away. It may come back from time to time, but you will have the pebble and the avalanche. Just ask and have faith, and the bolder will be removed.
